Doctor John THE SONG OF THE MILLENNIUM (45) RE: THE SONG OF THE MILLENIUM 09 Nov 99

If you are judging "the" song on its survivability it depends on whether its been passed down orally, written down words and music or recorded. These all blur together now of course. We wouldn't hear stuff like "Summer Holiday" now if sound recording hadn't been invented. Although church music was written down early (early = I don't know when but, well ,early) the old ballads were not. So they must be prime candidates. Barbara Allen perhaps: Greensleeves no - what does that tell us. 16th C "Summer Holiday" perhaps. I really like Ewan McCall's "Bring The Summer Home" but it's not been around long enough to pass the test. What about "Beaulamkin"? Dr John
