I really would not have a problem with the price, high though it really is for so-called folk. However I would be more sceptical about Planxty being able to revive the old spark of the early 70`s. I listened to loads of the solo works of the individual artists throughout the years. Christy was brilliant during the early years of his solo career, then unfortunately he fancied himself as a songwriter and recorded two CDs entitled Grafitti Tounge and Traveller. Sorry Christy they were both shite and I have stopped listening to you. That is not to say that Christy can`t write a good song, but he ain`t no songwriter for a complete CD. The Traveller CD especially was most embarrasing as he used cheap keyboard rhythms and most of the material was rehashed and sounded awful. That smacked to me of cheap commercialism. I really felt like asking for my money back. He may be getting the message though, as his more recent CD "This is the day" was like getting back to the roots and he had some of those great musicians back with him from the early days. No computers or punched-in rhythms. No, I think I would prefer to remember Planxty as they were in Slattery`s in 1972/73. Let someone else pay the €55. JB
