delphinium Gordon Lightfoot in the news (2) Gordon Lightfoot in the news 06 Dec 03

Gordon Lightfoot has been in the news a lot lately since his induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame last Wed.   CBC radio is airing a 2 hour version of the gala ceremony tomorrow, with performances of GL's music by Blue Rodeo, Tom Cochrane, and the Dexters, and also music of the other 4 inductees. The show is on tomorrow (Dec. 7) at 2 pm on CBC Radio Two & 8 pm on CBC Radio One. There's a Star article by Greg Quill about the gala here, Globe & Mail article here.

The Toronto Sun published an update & interview with GL last Wed here - it has more info about his health and says he will release a new album "Harmony" next spring. At the gala ceremony he said he hopes to tour again by 2005.

Best of all are the CBC archives about Gordo radio & TV clips now available here. Don't miss the "4 additional clips" link at the bottom, and also the "GL and the folk revival link", which is an interesting interview with Peter Gzowski. These clips give a fascinating perspective of a dedicated songwriter and musician, and of folk music in Canada over the last 35 years I recommend them as great entertainment for an evening, even for those (like me) who are not diehard Lightfoot fans.
